Ring All The Bells (O Bambino): an old classic revisited in time for Christmas
NY PodCat Heralds the Holiday Season with Inaugural Release “Ring All the Bells (O Bambino)”
27.11.2023 – Multi-talented music duo NY PodCat marks the start of the holiday season with their captivating rendition of the Italian classic, “Ring All the Bells (O Bambino)”. This heartwarming track serves as the duo’s maiden holiday release, adding a vibrant new chapter to their musical journey.
Originally penned by a monk and once recorded by the legendary Nancy Sinatra as a Folk rendition, the original song has now been reimagined by one-half of NY PodCat, Li Mann. Li wrote all new lyrics and 3 new melodic sections. The reinvented result is a completely new work, infused with Li’s favoured Pop structure, and modernised with added melodic sections. Even the verse lyrics are new, shifting the focus to the deeper and more spiritual resonance of love, as opposed to the more ritual and religious original Italian lyrics.
While recreating the song, Li’s nostalgic chord could not but keep a smilar melody in the chorus and 4 Italian words as an homage to the 60s version, which she grew to love as a child and remembers singing with her sister, growing up. Both the versions of Nancy Sinatra and the New Christy Minstrels were favourites, but her own songwriting instincts were already rewriting the song to add what would give the track new life, broader reach, and, of course, a more pop carol-like feel. When asked what she was thinking when she embarked on this perillous journey with an old classic, she reveals that she wanted to enable the melody to live on in a “new day, new ways.” In the same, spirit, she adds, “Would love choirs to perform it!”
“Ring All the Bells (O Bambino)” is infused with NY PodCat’s signature style, seamlessly blending the spirit of love and togetherness. The duo’s harmonious vocals and lively instrumentation capture the quintessential warmth of the season, reminding us of the true meaning of life.
The release of this enchanting holiday tune coincides with NY PodCat’s recent recognition on the Women of Substance podcast series. Their previous tracks, “No You Don’t” and “Get Movin (Moving Thunder),” were featured in October 2023, and the forthcoming holiday track is set to grace the airwaves on the December 8th show. Additionally, “Ring All the Bells (O Bambino)” will be showcased on the popular Living Vertikal Radio, further amplifying its reach and captivating a wider audience.
“We’re thrilled to share our inaugural holiday release with the world,” expressed Li Mann, one half of NY PodCat. “This song embodies the essence of the season, spreading joy and reminding us of the power of connection. While the original song’s lyrics were more religious, emphasizing rituals and sins, we rewrote the song to capture its deeper message of love beyond differences.”
In addition to the English version of the song, NY PodCat has also recorded a Spanish version called “Suenan Campanas (O Bambino)”. The Spanish version features the vocals of singer-songwriter Bianca Madrid, and it’s a beautiful and moving rendition of this sure-to-be classic carol.
As NY PodCat embarks on this exciting new chapter, their music continues to touch hearts and inspire listeners worldwide. “Ring All the Bells (O Bambino)” is a testament to their artistry and dedication to crafting meaningful music that resonates with diverse audiences.
