Time To Roll, MonkeyJunk’s fifth release, showcases deep grooves and soulful original material plus a cover of Albert King’s classic “The Hunter.”
The Ottawa-based trio is Canada’s most acclaimed blues/roots music band whose touring schedule regularly includes dates in Europe and major festivals across North America. Favorites of Elwood Blues (Dan Aykroyd), MonkeyJunk has received great support from the syndicated radio program The BluesMobile.
The Review – Their sound has been described as a “contemporary blend of swamp R&B, soul boogie, and bedroom funk.”. This group’s love of the old style, funk blues is evident on the story in the track, The Best Kept Secret. Time To Roll is a rowdy rocker about a call to self-freedom while relying on life lessons in subtle playing. The addition feature of the blues harp in Undertaker Blues gives in an old home feel that makes you picture three people around a fire, telling stories.
MonkyJunk sounds like it is having a great time with these recordings and you get the feeling that they would be a great, fun live act which is so difficult to translate on a recording, however, this has been accomplished here on Time To Roll. – Andrew Scott
