Do you remember the mystery and suspense of the Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock! Always shockers but thought-provoking! Well get ready for Horror Hotel created by Ricky Hess, this anthology series features horrific thriller tales inspired by The Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock series.
Each episode of Horror Hotel has a completely novel story portrayed by different characters. The series was shot in Atlanta, and many talented young artists participated in its creation, including Tech students who worked on some of the episodes.
Debbie Hess, the executive producer of Horror Hotel, spoke with VertiKal Bistro about the making of this web series and gave some great insights into the future of Web Series and some valuable advice.
Debbie Hess is a producer of independent film in Atlanta, GA. Her current project is an anthology web series called Horror Hotel which she co-produces with her son and creator, Ricky Hess, and her husband, Al Hess, the writer. The series features intriguing stories inspired by The Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock. The project was a collaborative effort involving over 80 local cast and crew including area film students and film school graduates as well as industry professionals. The goal was to create a visually appealing footage coupled with great storytelling in a format that could include sci-fi, horror, mystery and suspense tales. The exciting episodes include aliens, androids, ghosts, gangsters, and psychotic killers to name a few.
Her duties as a producer include securing crew, casting, maintain media, press relations, securing releases and locations, and distribution. But you will also find her functioning as script supervisor, scoring episodes, craft services, really anything that needs to be done on set. She has an extensive background in advertising having worked in radio, television, newspaper and magazine sales for years as an account executive. She realizes the value of promotion and focuses on that for the series.
She majored in art in her college days and puts that skill to use decorating the imaginative sets for the series and in helping to make costumes for our colorful characters. A second season is planned and already in pre-production. A customized set was built for the first season and will be utilized once again.
