Minoti Vaishnav; Following Her Dream From Mumbai to L.A.

May 09 Written by  R. Trent

Minoti Vaishnav was born in Mumbai, India with a passion for music, writing, and television. Knowing she couldn't pursue her passion the way she wanted to in her home country, Minoti moved to Los Angeles at the age of 19, leaving her family back in India. Not knowing a soul in L.A., Minoti still managed to make it on her own, and at 22 she released her first album "The Fictional Truth", with her first single "Psychologist" getting several thousands of downloads online.

In 2012, she graduated from California State University, Northridge and released her second album "Secret Garden" in 2013. In spite of not being signed to a label, the music video for her single "So Will You" went viral with over 100,000 views. In September 2015, Minoti came out with "Mix It Up" - her strongest album yet. Her songs have played on radio stations across the U.S, U.K, Canada, Singapore, and Denmark and she has been featured on EDA Music Radio's podcast and on Late Night With Laura. All Minoti's albums were self-produced, written, and released by Minoti herself.

MV3On the film and television front, Minoti got her start working as a producer and co-host on 17 episodes of a television review podcast called "TV Weekly", which has over 20,000 total downloads. Since then, she has worked with Academy Award® winning filmmakers and on prestigious events for the International Documentary Association, in social media and outreach on HBO's Emmy nominated® documentary American Winter (2013). She has also directed a short called R.I.P (2012), and worked in music licensing and producing on the Prestige Gold Award winning documentary Let Them Eat Cake (2014). She also wrote and directed the 11-minute pitch pilot for 3 Orbs of Light (2013), and has won "Best Screenplay" and "Best Teleplay" awards at several festivals and contests for her original pilot teleplay "Safe House", and for her feature script "The Realm of The Stones". Her most recent teleplay "Catalyst" was hand-picked by Leslie Cohen (V.P. of Programming at HBO) as one of only nine teleplay selections at the Skyway Film Festival.

After re-defining her career path, Minoti independently studied business and in 2013 she founded her own production company, Prophecy Girl Films. Through her company, she has worked in publicity for films like My Guardian Angel (2015 Festival de Cannes Short Film Corner selectee), Dispossessed ("Best Short Film" Award Winner at several festivals), Women Behind the Camera (Winner of Five "Best Documentary" awards at festivals) and many more. She has been tapped to direct, write, and produce two upcoming projects - Being Independent, a documentary series, and Abducted, a horror-short. Her company also has several other projects in development.

Minoti has also written for Documentary magazine, Indie Scene magazine and Verve magazine. She is the Director of Events for the Alliance for Women in Media in Southern California and has produced events sponsored by FOX and SAG-AFTRA. She currently lives in Los Angeles and continues to make her dreams a reality.
